Young Plaintiffs win the right to pursue legal action to protect the Climate
16 November 2016
On November 10, 2016, a USA federal court ruled in favor of 21 young plaintiffs in a groundbreaking climate lawsuit. Rejecting the arguments of the fossil fuel industry and the federal government, judge Ann Aiken determined that the young plaintiffs’ constitutional and public trust claims could proceed. Now, the 21 plaintiffs, aged 9-20, are preparing for trial in what may be a turning point in United States constitutional history.
“With today’s decision, the momentum is distinctly in our favor. And so is the law,” observed Julia Olson, counsel for the plaintiffs.
